Cape Town was just named the world's number one mountain escape for 2026 — and it's easy to understand why. Table Mountain rises above the city like a guardian, with 281 hiking trails through one of the richest floral kingdoms on earth. But hiking here with a certified private guide is a completely different experience. You're not just walking a trail — you're reading a mountain.

Why hike with a certified private guide?

Table Mountain is a real mountain — not a park walk. Weather changes in minutes. Trails can be exposed, slippery and disorienting when the clouds drop. As a certified mountain guide, I am trained in mountain safety, first aid, emergency procedures and trail navigation. Your safety is always the priority.

But beyond safety, hiking with me means discovering the mountain's stories — the endemic fynbos that exists nowhere else on earth, the history of the Cape in the rock layers, the best photo spots only regular hikers know, and the hidden viewpoints no group tour ever reaches.

The 4 main trails

I guide four main trails on Table Mountain, each offering a completely different experience. Here's how to choose the right one for you:

Kloof Corner hike Cape Town Camps Bay panoramic view
01

Kloof Corner

All levels · 30–45 min

The most accessible trail for non-hikers and families. 30–45 minutes of moderate ascent through indigenous fynbos, opening to one of the most spectacular panoramic views in Cape Town — Camps Bay beaches and the Twelve Apostles below. No technical sections. All levels, including children from age 8.

Lion's Head hike Cape Town 360 degree view summit
02

Lion's Head

Intermediate · 1.5–2 hrs

The most iconic hike in Cape Town. 1.5–2 hours with sections requiring hands and chains — not technically difficult but requires comfort with heights. The reward: 360-degree views of Table Mountain, the Atlantic, the city and the whole Cape Peninsula. Best at sunrise or sunset.

Platteklip Gorge Table Mountain summit UNESCO hike
03

Platteklip Gorge

Accessible · 2–3 hrs

The most direct route to the Table Mountain summit — a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 2–3 hours up through a dramatic rock gorge, hundreds of carved stone steps, opening to the magical flat summit plateau. We descend by cable car so you enjoy the mountain from every angle.

India Venster Table Mountain hike experienced natural window
04

India Venster

Experienced · 3.5–4.5 hrs

A beautiful and more challenging route, and one of my personal favourites. 3.5–4.5 hours through raw fynbos, dramatic rock formations and quieter sections of the mountain, with some hands-on scrambling. One highlight is the famous "Window" (Venster) — a natural rock arch perfect for photos. Wide open views away from the crowds. Cable car descent available. Ideal for experienced hikers wanting a proper mountain experience.

The mountain through my eyes

"I've been exploring the mountains around Cape Town for over 9 years, constantly discovering new trails and perspectives. Every hike I lead is shaped by that same curiosity. Every morning the light is different, every season the fynbos changes, and every experience reveals something unexpected. For me, the mountain is not a tourist attraction — it's a living place I feel privileged to share."
