Frequently Asked Questions

Real questions from real travellers — answered honestly.

Table Mountain has routes for all fitness levels. The Platteklip Gorge route (2–3 hrs) is the most popular and accessible for most fit adults. India Venster is more scenic and slightly more challenging. I always tailor the route to your group's fitness and experience. With a guide, you'll never take a wrong turn or get caught unprepared.
Yes, but it carries real risks. Weather on Table Mountain changes in minutes — people die every year due to sudden cloud cover and cold. Trails are not always clearly marked. A certified guide knows the mountain in all conditions, carries emergency gear, and handles any situation calmly. For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, it's worth it.
Good hiking shoes (not sandals), a wind/rain layer, 1.5L of water per person, sunscreen, a snack and your camera. I provide a full packing list when you book, and I carry a first aid kit, emergency blanket and extra water. No need to worry — I've got you covered.
Cape Town is a beautiful city that requires the same awareness as any major city. The tourist areas (Waterfront, City Bowl, Sea Point, Camps Bay, Constantia) are very safe during the day. With a private guide, you travel with someone who knows every neighbourhood intimately — I always know which streets to take and which to avoid, at what time.
I advise against walking alone at night in most areas, including the city centre. Uber/Bolt is very reliable and affordable in Cape Town — always use it after dark. The Waterfront and Camps Bay main strip are exceptions where it's generally fine at night. I always give my clients up-to-date safety briefings.
All my tours are fully private — just your group and me. I handle all logistics: pick-up, transport, entry tickets where needed, local knowledge, safety and full flexibility. Tours can be in French or English and are completely tailored to your interests, fitness and budget. I also provide wine, snacks and a full safety briefing on multi-day experiences.
Half-day private experiences start from €180, full-day tours from €280, and multi-day packages from €600. All prices are for the group (up to 6 people), not per person. I accept EUR, ZAR, Revolut and Wise transfers. Contact me for a personalised quote.
Yes — this is actually my speciality. I'm a certified bilingual guide (French/English) and most of my clients are French-speaking travellers from France, Belgium, Switzerland and Canada. Cape Town in French, with someone who knows it inside out, is a completely different experience.
October to April is summer — warm, sunny, perfect for beaches, hikes and wine routes. November–February is peak season (book early). May–September is winter — cooler and wetter but far fewer tourists, lower prices and still beautiful. I operate year-round and can plan for any season.
Most EU, UK, US, Australian and Canadian passport holders get visa-free entry for 90 days. French, Belgian, Swiss nationals: no visa needed. Always check the official South African government website for the latest requirements before travelling. Your passport must be valid for at least 30 days after your planned departure date.
Uber and Bolt are very affordable and reliable (much cheaper than in Europe). Renting a car is also great if you want freedom — driving is on the left. I do not recommend public buses for tourists. All my tours include pick-up and drop-off, so transport is taken care of from day one.
Yes — Boulders Beach in Simon's Town (about 45 min from the city) is home to a large African penguin colony. You can walk right next to them on the boardwalk. It's one of the highlights of any Cape Town trip, and I include it in my Cape Peninsula full-day tour. Entry is around R250 for adults.
Absolutely — Cape Town is one of the world's best whale watching destinations. Southern right whales visit between June and November, with September–October being peak season. Hermanus (90 min away) is world-famous for land-based whale watching. I can organise a full-day private tour combining Hermanus, wine estates and scenic coastal stops.
Cape Point is part of the Table Mountain National Park and sits at the dramatic tip of the Cape Peninsula — cliffs, ocean views, wild baboons, ostriches and a historic lighthouse. Combined with Boulders Beach penguins, Chapman's Peak Drive and Hout Bay, it makes for one of the best full days you'll have anywhere in the world. I do this as a full private day tour.
Camps Bay is the most iconic — beautiful, safe, right under the Twelve Apostles mountains. Clifton 4th Beach is more sheltered and calm. Boulders Beach is where the penguins are. For something wilder, Noordhoek Beach is spectacular. The Atlantic seaboard beaches are cold (15–18°C) year-round — if you want warmer swimming, False Bay beaches like Muizenberg are better in summer.
Most popular beaches have lifeguards in summer. Camps Bay, Clifton and Muizenberg are very safe for swimming. Be aware of rip currents on exposed beaches like Llandudno. Shark spotters operate on several False Bay beaches — when the flag is flying, it's safe. I always brief my clients on beach safety as part of any tour.
Day 1: Table Mountain hike or cable car, then Camps Bay sunset. Day 2: Cape Peninsula — Chapman's Peak, Cape Point, Boulders Beach penguins, Hout Bay. Day 3: Winelands — Stellenbosch or Franschhoek with a private guide. This is my most popular 3-day private itinerary and covers the city's absolute highlights without any wasted time.
With 5–7 days you can go deeper: add Robben Island, a full winelands day, a township cultural tour (Langa), Kirstenbosch Gardens, a sunset harbour cruise, and even a day trip to Hermanus for whales (in season). I build fully custom multi-day itineraries for clients — everything pre-planned, pre-booked, and guided privately.
Cape Town is fantastic for families. Kids love the penguins at Boulders Beach, the Two Oceans Aquarium at the Waterfront, Kirstenbosch Gardens, and easy beach days at Camps Bay. Table Mountain by cable car is suitable for all ages. I tailor all my tours to families — pace, stops, and activities adjusted for children of any age.
The South African Rand (ZAR). As of 2025, €1 ≈ R20–21, making Cape Town very affordable for Europeans. A good restaurant meal costs R200–400 (€10–20), a beer R35–60 (€2–3), an Uber across town R80–150 (€4–8). Cards are widely accepted everywhere. I always keep my clients updated on the best ways to manage money in Cape Town.
Cape Town has a Mediterranean climate — hot, dry summers (Nov–Mar, 25–35°C) and mild, wetter winters (Jun–Aug, 12–18°C). Wind is the variable to watch — the 'Cape Doctor' southeasterly can be strong in summer, especially on Table Mountain. Always bring a light layer even in summer. I check forecasts daily and adjust hiking plans accordingly.
